In 2016, the AIL Lymphoma Patients Group was established through the collaboration between the Associazione Italiana contro Leucemie, linfomi e mieloma ETS (AIL) and the Fondazione Italiana Linfomi – ETS (FIL).
The primary goal of the patient group is mutual support among patients. Its activities aim to increase awareness of lymphomas, encourage research in this field, keep patients informed about therapeutic innovations, and promote social initiatives.
The group is composed exclusively of patients and caregivers, with the purpose of sharing experiences, addressing common challenges, and staying up to date on advances in lymphoma diagnosis and treatment. The group does not in any way replace the role of the physician, but rather provides support by helping patients find answers to their questions and improve their approach to the disease.
FIL’s contribution to the patient group adds significant scientific value, as FIL brings together more than 150 hospitals across Italy working in a collaborative network to conduct research aimed at increasing cure rates for lymphoma patients, advancing biological knowledge in this field, and improving patients’ quality of life.
Patient group meetings
On October 22, 2016, the first “AIL Lymphoma Patients Group Meeting – Patient–Physician Seminar” was held, with the goal of fostering discussion between physicians and patients on key topics related to lymphomas, including: diagnostic techniques, post-treatment follow-up, fertility preservation, transplantation, long-term side effects of therapies, causes and risk factors, participation and informed consent, quality of life after treatment and psychological aspects, clinical support measures, and the role of general practitioners.
This meeting, together with the patient group itself, made it possible to develop the “Lymphomas” section of our website, which we hope provides essential information for all those interested in the broad field of lymphomas.
Patient–Physician Seminars
Since 2016, the Lymphoma Patients Group has organized two patient–physician seminars every year. Each meeting takes place in a different Italian city, but it is always possible to attend the congress online.
A distinctive feature of these meetings is the open interaction between patients and physicians, aimed at addressing and clarifying patients’ doubts and questions freely.
