Long-<\/span><\/b>survi<\/span><\/b>vors<\/span><\/b>\u00a0cancer patients are progressively increasing throughout the western world, thanks to the improvement in diagnosis<\/a> and the increasingly effective therapeutic tools. This population includes\u00a0<\/span>two groups<\/span><\/b>\u00a0of patients: those who have not relapsed for over 5 years and who can be considered “cured” and those who live over 5 years, but with a “chronic” disease that has various recurrences and needs intermittent care.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For these patients it is essential to identify personalized follow-up and management paths that\u00a0<\/span>take into account<\/span>, in addition to the oncological problem, the\u00a0<\/span>new emerging pathologies<\/span><\/b>\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span>psychological problems<\/span><\/b>\u00a0connected to the diagnosis and the therapies.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Also, the lengthening of life span of population (Italy is in second place in the world after Japan) increases the problems of diagnosing tumours in old patients because, usually, they have other pathologies that could hide the lymphoma. Moreover, the\u00a0<\/span>polypharmacy<\/span><\/b>\u00a0(simultaneous intake of more drugs) does not help the diagnosis.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Haematology of the IRCCS\u00a0<\/span>Istituto<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Tumori<\/span>\u00a0Giovanni Paolo II (Cancer Institute Giovanni Paolo II) of Bari shared useful information material for patients with FIL.
