FIL contributes to advancing scientific knowledge in the field of lymphomas through its clinical trials, participation in international studies, publication of scientific articles, and involvement in major onco-hematology congresses.
Among the Foundation’s research projects that have had a significant impact on expanding treatment options, we highlight five particularly important studies.
Here are the most significant results of FIL research:
HD0801 Study – Hodgkin Lymphoma. This study involved 512 patients and demonstrated that early treatment intensification for patients with positive PET scans after two cycles of therapy allows the majority of them to be cured.
The study was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in 2016.


FOLL05 Study – Follicular Lymphoma. This study involved 534 patients and, by comparing the main therapeutic regimens, identified a treatment approach that has become an international standard of care.
The study was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in 2018.
DLCL04 Study – Diffuse Large B-Cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. This study involved 376 high-risk young patients and demonstrated that upfront autologous stem cell transplantation is not necessary to improve prognosis when used in first-line treatment.


MCL0208 Study – Mantle Cell Lymphoma. This study involved 300 patients and showed that maintenance therapy with lenalidomide after autologous transplantation provides a clinical benefit by delaying disease relapse.
ELDERLY Project – Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma. This study involved 1,163 elderly patients (>65 years) and demonstrated the importance of incorporating geriatric assessment at diagnosis. It led to the development of a prognostic index (Elderly Prognostic Index – EPI) that combines geriatric evaluation with lymphoma clinical characteristics.
The study was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in 2021.
